Iain Maloney was born in Aberdeen, Scotland and now lives in Gifu, Japan.
He has published travel memoirs: The Japan Lights, (Tippermuir 2023), The Only Gaijin in the Village, (Birlinn 2020); novels: In the Shadow of Piper Alpha (Tippermuir 2022), Silma Hill (Freight 2015), First Time Solo (Freight 2014); a novella, Life is Elsewhere/Burn Your Flags (Liminal Ink 2021); Three books of poetry: Mountain Retreats (Isobar, 2024)l Envy the Seasons (Tapsalteerie 2022); Fractures (Tapsalteerie 2016); and edited the collection In the Empty Places (Bantuan 2014). In 2013 he was shortlisted for the Dundee International Book Prize and the 2014 Guardian Not The Booker Prize.
