Nikala Asante is a writer and educator from Houston, Texas. Her first full length collection of poetry and short stories, "Re-Divining Self", has garnered local international attention for poetically approaching issues such as empowerment of women, ending domestic violence,and investing in African American youth. Asante's short story within the collection, "Liberation", addresses poverty and abuse through the lens of speculative fiction. "The Reality of Wishes" is an urban ghost story that combines the metaphysical with stark realism.
Asante is also an internationally renowned spoken word artist, most recently featured in the full-length documentary, The 16th Strike.
