Julie grew up in Africa and travelling around the world with her parents, Emmy award winning wildlife photographers Jen and Des Bartlett. She was given her first camera when she was four, and Des would drive right up to rhinos and elephants so that she could could get good photos with her wide angle lens.
Today Julie is a practicing herbalist and naturopath living in Norfolk, England with her husband and son. She loves gardening, herbal medicine, writing, photography and walks in the countryside. She and her husband teach courses and workshops in herbal medicine-making and foraging.
Julie has co-authored 5 books. The first was a vegetarian cookbook, Vegetarian Masterpieces, written with Carol Tracy and published in 1989. With her husband Matthew Seal, Julie has written Hedgerow Medicine (2008) (Backyard Medicine), Kitchen Medicine (2010), Make your own Aphrodisiacs (2012)(Aphrodisia), and The Herbalist's Bible (2014).
