Carlos Pintado (1974) is a Cuban-American writer, playwright and award-winning poet. His book "Habitación a oscuras" received the prestigious Sant Jordi's International Prize for Poetry; his book "El azar y los tesoros" was one of the finalist for the Adonais Prize in 2008. In 2014, Pintado was awarded by The National Poetry Series with the Paz Prize for Poetry for his new book "Nine coins, Nueve monedas" judged by United States' inaugural poet, Richard Blanco, and published in a bilingual edition by Akashic Books. In September 2015, US Poet Laureate, Natasha Trethewey, selected his poem "The Moon" to be featured in The New York Times Magazine. Pintado's other books are: "La Seducción del Minotauro", "Los bosques de Mortefontaine", "Habitación a oscuras", "Los Nombres de la noche", "El Unicornio y otros poemas", "Cuaderno del falso amor impuro", "Taubenschlag", "la sed del último que mira" (Sudaquia, 2015). He also contributed to the book: The exile Experience: a journey to freedom, coordinated by Emilio Estefan. His poems have been sung by The South Beach Music Ensemble, The San Francisco Girls Chorus, New York's Continuum Ensemble and Chicago's Dal Niente. Some of his works have been translated into English, Italian, German, French, Turkish, Portuguese and Italian.
