T.J. Mitchell is the New York Times bestselling coauthor with his wife, Dr. Judy Melinek, of three books. The first, the memoir Working Stiff: Two Years, 262 Bodies, and the Making of a Medical Examiner (Scribner, 2014), has sold over 100,000 copies in nine languages. First Cut (2020) is the debut of the acclaimed Jessie Teska medical-examiner mysteries from Hanover Square Press. Aftershock, the second novel in the series, is now available in hardcover, e-book, and audiobook. Mitchell is a native of Nahant, Massachusetts and worked in the film industry and for 12 years as a stay-at-home dad before becoming a novelist. In July of 2021, he and Dr. Melinek moved with their family from their home in San Francisco to Wellington, New Zealand, where she performs autopsies and they continue to write essays and books together.
