Maria Kernahan

Dry Climate Studios started as a love affair. A love affair with a town. When Maria Kernahan was living in Aspen, Colorado, the idea of A is for Aspen was born. She and Michael Schafbuch collaborated to create a visual love letter to the unique mountain town. Maria had grown up skiing in Aspen, and had recently relocated her family there. A is for Aspen was an immediate hit, with adults as well as children. Locals and tourists alike love the clean, colorful graphics and the fun, whimsical rhymes. But mostly, they love the place the pages depict. Chicago was the next city on the list, Maria's hometown and first love. Boston and Texas followed, with Seattle, San Francisco, New York, DC and the great states of Michigan and Texas. I love American cities. I appreciate what makes each one unique, from the landmarks, to the food and music, and most of all the people. I hope you love our books and merchandise as much as I love your cities.
