Gerard V. Aflague, an author and illustrator born on the Pacific island of Guam to Chamorro parents, has an extensive and diverse background. Growing up in the village of Sinajana, Guam, he immersed himself in his culture, attended school, and started his career in the government on Guam. He also served honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard reserves in Guam and Virginia. He is currently a senior information technology (IT) analyst conducing federal audits of IT programs across the federal government and researches and develops reports for the U.S. Congress to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of IT systems within the executive branch whose aim is to delivery a variety of services to the American people. With a passion for publishing, Aflague has authored, illustrated, or self-published over 140 adult and children's titles in multiple languages. His collection includes books translated in languages such as Chamorro, Samoan, Tongan, Spanish, Hawaiian, French, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Fijian, Tagalog, Carolinian, Yapese, Palauan, German, French, Chuukese, Afrikaans, Amharic, and Malay. Specializing in children's language learning and short storybooks, Aflague offers titles that cater to customers seeking a connection to Guam, the Northern Marianas, Samoa, Tonga, the Philippines, and Hawaii markets, among others. Aflague, now residing in sunny Colorado with his family, has a best-selling hardcover publication with his wife, Mary Christine Ong—a 424-page cookbook depicting Chamoru culture and cuisine - aptly titled CHamoru Cuisine. This comprehensive title showcases Chamoru culture, including its origins and lifestyle, alongside over a hundred Chamoru-style recipes. Over 6,500 of this single award-winning title with sales exceeding a quarter-million dollars have been sold and distributed across the world. Apart from his literary pursuits, Gerard Aflague holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Public Administration from the University of Guam and a Masters of Science degree in Information Systems Management from NOVA Southeastern University, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Beyond his professional and literary roles, Aflague is an online entrepreneur, creating hundreds of products sold in various stores with a focus on niche markets such as Pacific island-themed products and educational resources. Tens of thousands of his products have reached customers worldwide, prominently displayed in homes and in educational and professional institutions across the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, and Australia. His passions are traveling to far flung places including Oceania, Australia, South East Asia, the Orient, across the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. When he isn't traveling or spending time with his family, he can be found pursuing his passion of grappling Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, bouldering, swimming, running, and enjoying other fitness activities.
