Paul Chaplo is an American fine art photographer who lives in Texas. The images for his book "Marfa Flights: Aerial Views of Big Bend Country" were photographed during perilous flights over the rugged and beautiful land of west Texas and along the Mexican border.
"Amarillo Flights: Aerial Views of Llano Estacado Country" will be released later in 2020. The new book is packed with aerial images of Texas, Eastern New Mexico, and Western Oklahoma. Embedded in many of the fine art landscape images are historic sites of interest to readers of the American West, including Horsehead Crossing, Castle Gap, Mobeetie, Landergin Mesa, Adobe Walls Battlefield, Chavez City ruins, Alibates Flint Quarries, and Palo Duro Canyon—to name a few. The book is accompanied by a traveling exhibit of 38 large format color photographs from the book. The solo exhibit will be on display at the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum in Canyon, Texas (near Amarillo) from July 17, 2020 through January 23, 2021.
Paul earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. His work has been nationally exhibited, mostly in group shows, at numerous museums and galleries, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the National Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C. He has appeared as a National Endowment for the Arts Visiting Artist/Workshop Leader.
The release of the book is accompanied by a concurrent exhibit of 40 large color photographs in a solo exhibition at the Museum of the Big Bend in Alpine, Texas.
