I am deeply interested in helping humans lead meaningful, fulfilling lives. I write non-fiction because I believe the subjective nature of human truth deserves a scribe. My first book, How to Raise an Adult, takes aim at the harm of helicopter parenting in undermining agency and resilience in children and young adults. My second book, Real American: A Memoir, examines the impact of the thousand small cuts of microaggressions and racism. My third book, Your Turn: How to Be an Adult is an inclusive approach to leading your best life once you're a grownup. I hold a BA in American Studies from Stanford University, a JD from Harvard Law School, and an MFA in writing from California College of the Arts. I serve on numerous non-profit boards. I live in Palo Alto, California with my partner of over thirty-five years, our itinerant young adults, and my mother, and where I serve on the City Council.
