Ilse Koehler-Rollefson is a German born author, scholar and advocate for socially and ecologically sustainable livestock keeping. She is based in Rajasthan (India) since the 1990s where she has lived among the Raika camel nomads who have inspired her work. In 2012, she started a camel farm together with her partner, but continues to travel widely to visit nomads in different parts of the world. She has received numerous awards for her work, including a Rolex Associate Award for Enterprise and the Marwar Rattan Award bestowed by the Maharajah of Jodhpur for her contribution to saving Rajasthan's heritage.
