Dr. Vannatta began his teaching career in independent school education at Casady School in the history, English, and religion departments. After earning his PhD in philosophy at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Dr. Vannatta joined the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Morgan State University, where he won a university research awardd in 2012 and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2014 and to full professor in 2018. Dr. Vannatta studies the history of philosophy and American philosophy, and is interested in philosophy's relationship to other dimensions of culture including law, politics, education, and sport. He is a member of the American Philosophical Association and the Society for the Advancement of American Philosophy.
