Tom Seaman earned his bachelor’s degree in education and psychology in 1994, after which he partnered in private business ventures in health education. While pursuing his master’s degree in counseling in 2001, he developed dystonia, a painful neurological movement disorder that completely changed his life. He lost everything. After numerous ineffective treatments and years of debilitating physical and mental pain, Tom learned and applied a combination of techniques that greatly improved his quality of life. In addition to better managing his dystonia, he lost 150 pounds he gained due to his sedentary lifestyle with chronic pain.
In 2012, Tom became certified as a Professional Life Coach and has continued this passion ever since. Utilizing this education and the tools he learned from his significant life challenges, Tom now dedicates himself to helping others take more control of their lives. His focus is helping people better manage the challenges of chronic health conditions, stress, anxiety, depression, work/life balance, and relationships. Tom has had the pleasure of working with clients 11 to 75 years old from all over the world.
In 2015, Tom published Diagnosis Dystonia: Navigating the Journey. This combination autobiography, self help, education book provides treatment options, coping strategies, skills for daily living, and tools for dealing with the physical and mental challenges of life with a chronic health condition.
In 2021, Tom published his latest book, Beyond Pain and Suffering: Adapting to Adversity and Life Challenges. This book provides strategies for managing difficulties we are experiencing in the moment, and for the unpredictable stressors in life, such as financial distress, trauma, pain, diseases and other illnesses, relationship issues, fear, depression, anxiety, and grief, to name just a few. This book offers tools and strategies for how to cope and manage these situations and move beyond the pain and suffering they bring, be it physical, emotional, or both. It teaches how to not make the most difficult parts of our lives the most significant parts of our lives.
In addition to his books, Tom has written numerous articles that have been published around the world about strategies for living with chronic health conditions and other life challenges. Tom has also been a guest on international radio shows and podcasts, and his work was featured in various pain magazines such as Pain Free Living and Pain Pathways. He was also the keynote speaker for the first ever National Dystonia Symposium in Canada.
Tom is also a health and wellness blogger, motivational speaker, volunteer for the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation as a support group leader, and is a member and writer for The Mighty, Patient Worthy, The Wellness Universe, and Chronic Illness Bloggers Network.
