John L. Olsen, CLU, ChFC is an author and former insurance, financial, & estate planner in St. Louis County, MO. With over 47 years in the financial services, John is the author or co-author of several books, including six editions of "The Advisor's Guide to Annuities", the newest being the 6th ed., National Underwriter Co., 2021" (with Michael Kitces). He is also author or co-author of "Index Annuities: A Suitable Approach, Olsen & Marrion, LLC, 2010" (with Jack Marrion), "Taxation and Suitability of Annuities" (4th edition),"John Olsen's Guide to Annuities for the Consumer" (3rd edition), "READ THIS Before Buying Any Annuity" (2nd edition), "Three Stories (his only published work of fiction), and "The Pillars of Auschwitz" (his only published book of history), all available on Amazon.
Retired in 2021 from all sales and consulting work, John still enjoys assisting financial service professionals with annuity taxation and suitability questions. He is a Past President of the Estate Planning Council of St. Louis, Past-President of the St. Louis chapter of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, a former Board member of the St. Louis chapter of the Society of Financial Services Professionals, and serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of National Underwriter's "Tax Facts".
John enjoys problem solving, writing, reading, and arguing almost anything. He lives in Kirkwood, MO with his wife, Kathi, and Calpurrnia, their cat.
