Scott D. Miller is an assistant clinical professor at Texas Tech. University, and a college instructor of mahjong. He also happens to be the acclaimed author of "Mahjong from A to Zhú," and of "Riichi Mahjong: The Ultimate Guide to the Japanese Game Taking the World by Storm", as well as the editor-in-chief of "Mahjong News," and the author of "Tiles of the Unexpected," a column published in the international periodical "The Mahjong Collector." He’s competed internationally in mahjong championships and pickup games in places near and far, from Austria to Nepal, and many countries in between. Dr. Miller has shared his books and knowledge with people of all walks of life from children to heads of state. For his mahjong knowledge and expertise, Dr. Miller has been certified by the European Mahjong Association as one of their original riichi mahjong referees; he also refereed for the first World Riichi Championship hosted in Paris in 2014. Since that time, he has been invited to sit on the World Riichi Championship Committee, and along with his fellow committee members now presides over the official rules of the competition. He also serves as vice president for the Mahjong International League based in China. When he’s not playing, teaching, or judging mahjong, he lives and works in Amarillo, Texas with his wife and four beautiful children.
