George J. Roy

George J. Roy, PhD, is an associate professor of mathematics education at the University of South Carolina, where he teaches mathematics methods courses as part of the middle-level education program in the Department of Instruction and Teacher Education. His research includes examining the uses of technology in middle school mathematics classrooms and preservice teachers’ development of mathematical content knowledge. Prior to teaching at the University of South Carolina, Dr. Roy was an elementary and middle-level mathematics educator at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. He also served as a mathematics teacher in an urban middle school, where he earned a National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification in mathematics/early adolescence. Dr. Roy has authored or coauthored numerous articles and several book chapters and has presented at the annual conferences of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators, and North American Chapter of the International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Rollins College, a master’s degree in mathematics education (with a focus on K–8 mathematics and science) from the Lockheed Martin Academy at the University of Central Florida, and a doctorate in education (with an emphasis on mathematics education) from the University of Central Florida.
