Keeya is a Detroit native residing in Charlotte, NC she is an 7x Self-Published Author of a variety of books, coloring books and journals.
She became a mother at the age of 19 and again five years later to her 2nd son. During this time frame
she created a Yahoo support group for mothers. Where the mothers chatted online for support and also
meet up 2x a week for support groups. She then joined a national mother’s support group called Mocha
Moms. She held a chair positions as well.
She participated in numerous volunteer/community based events over the years with the Mocha Moms,
a non-profit organization and support group for stay at home mothers of color. One of the most
memorable events was the one she hosted at a local girls shelter called Alternatives for Girls. Several of
the young mothers and their children were showered with Christmas gifts.
She married at the age of 25 and then had her 3rd son and this is when she finished her undergraduate
studies.
She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Phoenix in Health Administration.
After divorcing in 2008 she became a home owner. She obtained her graduate degree in 2011 from
Central Michigan University where she obtained a Master’s of Science degree in Information Resource
Managements. In 2017 obtaining a Certificate as Agile Scrum Master. This added to her long career as an
IT Project Manager in Corporate America.
As a mother, Keeya volunteered many hours in her children’s classrooms and also held the position as
President of the Employee Activities committee while working at Karmano’s Cancer Center.
In 2012 she joined Black Girls Run and began a healthy lifestyle journey and in 2013 she joined Girl Trek .
Both are national organizations that promotes healthy lifestyles via walking, jogging or running. This
lead her to making a personal goal for herself and with a few friends to run one race per month in 2014.
Her goals were accomplished by hard work and dedication. She ran two half marathons, the Canadian
Detroit Free Press International Race, and the Puerto Rico, San Juan Diva Dash. The other 10 were a
combination of 5 and 10ks. She earned a few free entries again by volunteering her time to the race
companies which she is involved in and her children were in some of the races as well. She currently
serves at her church 2x a month as a 1st and 2nd grade Sunday school teacher.
Keeya has always had a love for girls since she never had one of her own. She has a few awesome
testimonies about her trials growing up as a tall dark skin, glasses wearing, and introverted female in
Detroit. She looks forward to sharing with the young ladies that will benefit and blossom from
participating on the Board of Directors as Secretary for the non-profit organization . Imperfect is the
New Perfect. Keeya plans to help the organization reach its mission by implementing the vision with
every young lady in need that crosses her path.
Fun facts: Keeya loves travel solo & with her sons . She enjoys outside activities such tent camping ,
hiking, riding bikes, walking and owned a Quarter horse for 2 years.
