Brenda Salgado was born to Nicaraguan immigrant parents, and grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. She offered the 2016 Commencement Speech at Naropa University, and has recently spoken at Bioneers Conference, Mindful Life, Thrive East Bay, and WisdomWomen Visionary Gathering at Esalen. She is author of "Real World Mindfulness for Beginners: Navigate Daily Life One Practice at a Time". Brenda is the founder of Nepantla Center for Healing and Renewal. Trained by elders in traditional medicine, Brenda draws on the healing powers of the natural world to guide her work as a spiritual leader and medicine woman. Her current projects are focused on sacred economics, mindfulness, transformational leadership, and indigenous teachings for our times. She is committed to co-creating a society filled with wholeness and beauty, and is grateful to her ancestors for the values that have led her to spiritual and social justice work. Brenda holds degrees in Biology, Developmental Psychology, and Animal Behavior. She has over 15 years of experience in nonprofit management, movement building, women’s health, and environmental and social justice. She serves on the boards of Movement Strategy Center and the Lion’s Roar Foundation. In the past, she has served as the Director or the East Bay Meditation Center, and as a Senior Fellow at Movement Strategy Center.
