Dr. Frank Satterthwaite is a professor of organizational leadership and past director of the MBA program at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. In addition to being a co-author with Jamie Millard of their recently published book, Becoming a Can-Do Leader: A Guide for the Busy Manager, Frank is the senior author of The Career Portfolio Workbook: Using the Newest Tool in Your Job-Hunting Arsenal to Impress Employers and Land a Great Job (McGraw-Hill, 2003). This career self-management book was selected as an "Editor's Choice" at the Wall Street Journal's Career Journal Bookstore and was highly recommended by Dick Bolles in his best-selling book What Color is Your Parachute? The Career Portfolio Workbook was also designated a “must have resource” by the National Career Development Association. Earlier in his career, Frank’s autobiography of his adventures as a professional athlete, The Three-Wall Nick and Other Angles (Holt, 1979) was awarded a star by Kirkus Reviews. His first book also received critical acclaim in other highly regarded publications such as The New Yorker Magazine and The Globe & Mail newspaper in Toronto. Frank has given numerous presentations with Jamie Millard on developing the can-do mindset at international conferences, and has been a frequent blogger for the Association for Talent Development (ATD) Management Community of Practice. Frank and Jamie’s webcasts, podcasts and video clips on can-do leadership are included in the ATD online library. In addition to Frank and Jamie’s June 2016 cover story for TD magazine, “The Delegation Conundrum”, Frank’s articles have appeared in numerous national magazines, including Esquire magazine. He has also appeared on nationally broadcast radio and TV programs in both the U.S. and Canada, where he also wrote and hosted six half-hour educational TV shows for a PBS affiliate. Frank has a management consulting and executive coaching practice in which he helps managers become can-do leaders. Frank studied psychology at Princeton and received a master’s degree in urban studies and a Ph.D. in organizational behavior from Yale University. Earlier in his career, he was a member of the U.S. national men's squash team. Frank and his architect wife, Martha Werenfels, live outside Providence, Rhode Island.
