Michael Lubelfeld Ed.D. has served as a public school superintendent in Illinois since 2010. Prior to becoming a superintendent, he was an assistant superintendent, a middle school principal, a middle school associate principal, and a middle school social studies teacher. He currently serves as the superintendent of schools in the North Shore School District 112 in Highland Park, and Highwood, IL north of Chicago. The district contains 9 elementary schools with 3800 students. Lubelfeld earned his Doctor of Education in curriculum and instruction from Loyola University of Chicago, where his published dissertation was on Effective Instruction in Middle School Social Studies. He is also is and has been on the adjunct faculty at Loyola University and National Louis University in the Department of Educational Leadership. Dr. Lubelfeld's undergraduate work was at the University of Illinois-Chicago where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science with a minor concentration in Criminal Justice. In 2017 he was named superintendent of the year in his county, Lake County, IL. Mike earned an Illinois Association of School Administrators (IASA) School of Advanced Leadership Fellowship and he also graduated from the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) National Superintendent Certification Program. Lubelfeld has presented on leadership topics around the state, nation, and world, and he is active in leadership development with state and national associations. He has led aspiring superintendent workshops in Illinois and across the nation. Mike was awarded the 2021 Administration and Supervision Distinguished Alumni Award from Loyola University of Chicago School of Education. He co-authored the 2017 Rowman & Littlefield book The Unlearning Leader: Leading for Tomorrow’s Schools Today and the 2018 Rowman & Littlefield book Student Voice: From Invisible to Invaluable, the 2021 book, The Unfinished Leader: A School Leadership Framework for Growth & Development, the 2023 book The Unfinished Teacher: Becoming the Next Version of Yourself. His latest book, with Nick Polyak, Leading for Tomorrow’s Schools Today will be out early in 2025! Mike and his wife Stephanie have two children and they live in suburban Chicago.
