Since 1999, long before sustainability was part of the national conversation, Fulya Kocak Gin has been following her personal mission - and professional passion - to become a leader and innovator in sustainable design and construction. By intellect, experience, and tenacity, Fulya Kocak Gin has played a significant role in an enviable portfolio of public and private sector projects nationwide, educating the development community about the importance of sustainability and guiding project teams toward environmental stewardship. Rooted with graduate academic work in engineering and architecture, Fulya's career started in field operations as a construction project manager. While managing these commercial projects, Fulya, on her own initiative, started a sustainability committee within her company and created Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification tools, including best practices. She then created a green building education curriculum. Fulya later worked in the pre-construction and estimating department to gain financial experience. In 2010, Fulya was promoted to a full-time sustainability leadership position. In her role as National Director of Sustainability at a nationwide construction company, she advised project teams across the country on how to best meet and exceed their sustainable goals. Fulya led environmental responsibility efforts across all departments at her organization, mentored and educated young and veteran employees, developed continuing education curriculum, and assisted clients in designing and developing sustainable projects. Fulya currently teaches Green Buildings at University of Maryland Eastern Shore as an adjunct Faculty. In her current role as Vice President of Sustainability for a highly respected trade association, Fulya leads sustainability efforts and programs tied to sustainability, inclusive of environmental, social and governance aspects within the Real Estate industry. Fulya is often asked to share her extensive green real estate and corporate sustainability experience by speaking at events and conferences and teaching sustainability workshops. Fulya won multiple sustainability leadership awards, recognizing her inspirational work in growing sustainability leaders and she is particularly proud of being named as a prestigious LEED Fellow. Fulya lives in Maryland with her husband Ihsan and their children Kaan and Kayra.
