Scott Paulson is an award-winning Midwestern American English teacher and author from the Chicago area. He has written many books including several informational writings as well as contemporary fiction, historical fiction, and memoirs.
His books are listed and briefly described below:
"Writing in the Closet" is a contemporary adventure fiction novel. Robert Jones has enjoyed teaching English in Chicago for over three decades but has taken his retirement as soon as possible. The major reason he has retired is that he has often been dissatisfied with others in the profession. After retiring, he begins delivering food, a job in which he can work alone most of the day. Yet, while on that job, he enjoys encountering many people in many different walks of life. On the evening when he has an undeliverable food package in that the customer can’t be found, he chooses not to eat it or dispose of it. Instead, he stops at a train's underpass in Chicago’s Little Village where he has previously seen homeless people gathered, and he offers the food to them. This is when he meets Berta, and his adventures begin. Though Berta is allegedly a lady of the evening with an admitted drug addiction, Robert takes a great liking to her. They are much the same in some ways and interestingly different in others. Similarly, both of them need more civil companionship than they have previously had in their lives. Consequently, they begin spending much time together, until Berta goes missing. Robert’s unlikely attraction to her is strangely admirable and understandable since he wants companionship. When telling his niece Jennifer about having met Berta, as well as some of Berta's acquaintances on the street, she is captivated by his stories and suggests he write a novel about his adventures. Ultimately, Berta inspires Robert to write, and Robert tries to inspire Berta to improve her life. An interesting plot evolves when Robert meets a potential publisher who insists he add sex scenes to his novel, which is something of which Robert isn't comfortable. This book is a literary fiction, cozy contemporary adventure available in e-book, paperback, and hard cover.
