Hedy's Journey is the story of my mother's journey as a 16-year-old girl traveling alone across Europe--through Germany!--in the middle of WWII. She managed to reunite with her family in Portugal and eventually made it to America. I am her daughter. I am a long-time editor of children's books, an erstwhile award-winning journalist, book reviewer, and playwright, and a fervent reader. This is my first children's book, beautifully illustrated by El primo Ramon.
For the past few years, I’ve had the joy and pleasure of sharing my mother’s story with schoolchildren in the tristate area. Their enthusiasm, great questions, and devoted attention have blown my mind.
