Jack McCabe was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He attended both Catholic elementary and high school. Jack always loved sharing the stories of elementary school and the neighborhood where he grew up. The cast of characters both in and out of school fascinated him. He started writing his memoir in 2023 and hopes you will enjoy reading it. ROSARIES, BASEBALL AND A BRICK TO THE HEAD.
After a three-year stint in the Army including nineteen months in Vietnam he returned to Chicago and continued his education attaining an associate degree. In 1978 he decided that he wanted a bachelor’s degree. He started night classes at Northeastern Illinois University and graduated WITH HONORS in 1981 at the age of thirty.
Jack owned his own business for 20 years and sold real estate for 20 more, before retiring to North Carolina, where he became a certified Peer Support Specialist with a veteran designation.
Jack began writing in 2015 and published his first book WHEN WE CAME HOME in 2017. The book shared the stories of Vietnam veterans and the struggles they faced with PTSD, adjustment and Agent Orange illnesses.
His second book THOSE LEFT BEHIND was published in 2021 telling the true story of an Army helicopter that was shot down in Vietnam in 1970. It follows some of the soldiers involved and their families back home.
