I am proof that remarkable things can happen in the most unremarkable lives. I grew up in the 1950's and 60's, an introverted bookworm with some talent for art. Writing was never something I foresaw myself engaging in. I met my husband in college, where I obtained a degree in biology. We raised our son and led ordinary work-a-day lives. He grew up and moved out, and at a time when my husband and I should have settled down to a nice quiet retirement, I got the urge to adopt someone. We did adopt Rosemary, and raised her, and it was the most intense, difficult, and beautiful experience I ever had. I hope my book conveys the vividness of how my life was changed by changing the life of someone who really needed me.
