Ken Shumate

I research and write about the earliest years of the American Revolution, with a particular focus on examination of taxes established by the levy of duties on products imported into the colonies. I am a frequent contributor to the Journal of the American Revolution, including, “The Molasses Act: A Brief History,” included in the Annual Volume 2020. You can see by the older books shown on this page that I had a software-oriented professional and writing career; but my attention has fully turned to the revolutionary era. I am now hard at work on a book about the years following the Sugar Act of 1764.
