David Herron is a software engineer and writer living in Silicon Valley. With nearly 30 years experience in Silicon Valley, David brings a depth of knowledge and experience to his writing. He has worked on a wide range of technologies including electronic mail systems, video streaming servers, several GUI toolkits for desktop computers, semiconductor testing machines, application development platforms, test automation tools, and solar performance monitoring systems. In 2008-9, David developed a strong urge to turn his work towards improving our world. He spent several years developing a journalism career focused on electric vehicles, and endeavoring to offset the lies being spoken about EV's and other clean energy technologies. After several years of that work, David was drawn back into software engineering, this time with a vision of software that served to improve our world. For example, software that can better manage distributed renewable energy systems can make solar and wind power systems more practical. In late 2010, David kind of accidentally got a contract to write one of the first books on Node.js programming. He had contacted Packt Publishing about working as a technical reviewer on a book, and the author of that book suddenly backed out leaving Packt needing an author. Since David was at the time learning Node.js on the job, it meant he had the mind-perspective to write an introductory book on Node.js. That book, Node.js Web Development, is in its 3rd Edition, and a 4th Edition is on the way.
