Ron Marinella, like many seniors, spent his adult life working at a desk, and his weekends trying to compensate for the sedentary workweek. Retirement allowed him to replace his weekend-warrior fitness routine with more regular exercise, including; jogging, resistance machines, dumbbells, and, of course, golf. But it wasn’t until he began, in earnest, lifting free weights, and, specifically, barbells, that he discovered the true secret to restoring muscle and gaining strength. His book, Finishing Strong! Strength Training for Old(er) Guys and his website, www.finishingstrong.blog are dedicated to convincing the senior to try something he may not have done since high school and supporting those efforts with practical approaches. His writings combine his personal experiences, observations, and contemporary research to give the reader the what, the why, and the how to restore muscle and strength lost due to aging and lifestyle. A skeptic by nature and training, he believes much of what has been written about fitness and diet is misleading or just wrong. Consequently, his book questions much of today’s conventional wisdom, and points to research supporting his skepticism. He hopes you will find his writings easy to read and even a little entertaining. Ron Marinella hit 72 in 2018. He resides with his wife Connie in Rancho Mirage, California.
