Joseph Thompson joined the Houston Larry Dierker Chapter SABR in 2013. Married to his wife Susan and father of three children (Jordan, Josh, and Kayla), Joe is an Air Force veteran that served during Operation Desert Storm. A lecturer at the University of Houston, he completed PhD in American History at the University of Houston in December. His doctoral dissertation focused on drugs, vice, celebrity, and media in American culture and the national pastime. He is the 2018 Joseph Pratt Public History Prize winner for his book co-authored with Professor Richard Santillan, Mexican-American Baseball in Houston and Southeast Texas. Previously, he co-authored Houston Baseball: The Early Years with members from the Larry Dierker SABR chapter and several other chapter book selections on baseball history as well as various public history projects.
