Liza Gross is a staff reporter for Inside Climate News who covers California agriculture, oil and gas and environmental justice. Prior to joining Inside Climate News, she was an independent journalist whose investigative reporting appeared in The Nation, The Intercept, Reveal (from the Center for Investigative Reporting), The New York Times and The Washington Post, among other publications. Her investigations — which have examined issues including unchecked violence in psychiatric hospitals, industry bias in “sound science” groups, government failures to protect Latino children from pesticides and vaping advocates’ hidden ties to the tobacco industry — have received national awards and recognition in the 2016 “Best American Science and Nature Writing” anthology. Most recently her reporting for Inside Climate News revealing how the oil industry convinced California regulators it was safe to irrigate crops with its wastewater won both an Izzy Award and a AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Award.
