Christine Y. Mason, PhD, an educational psychologist, researcher, and mindfulness yoga meditation instructor, is the founder and senior scholar at the Center for Educational Improvement, a non-profit dedicated to heart centered learning. She is author of six books published since 2019 related to mindfulness, heart centered learning, visioning for success, and compassionate mental health -- all focused on using evidenced based practices to improve schools. Her most recent books center on empathy, equity, and early childhood. She is also an assistant clinical professor in the department of psychiatry in Yale University's school of medicine, where she focuses on mental health of children and youth with her work with the Program for Recovery and Community Health. Dr. Mason is a co-host with Jeff Ikler and Jesse Kohler of the Cultivating Resilience - A Whole Community Approach for Alleviating Trauma in Schools podcasts. Dr. Mason is the developer of Heart Beaming, a meditative practice for mind-breaks in classrooms. Her workshops incorporate the latest findings on the brain’s neuroplasticity with scientific evidence and practical activities for reducing stress, lessening the impact of childhood trauma, and improving teacher morale. She developed the S-CCATE, the School-Compassionate Culture Assessment Tool for Educators (used to empower teacher professional development) with co-author Dr. Michele Rivers Murphy and others. In 2016 she received an award as a Pioneer in Children’s Wellbeing by the Robert Woods Johnson and Ashoka Foundations.
