Johnny Lorenz

Johnny Lorenz is a poet, scholar and translator of Brazilian literature. He published EDUCATION BY WINDOWS, a book of original poems with translations of poems by Mario Quintana, in 2018 (Poets & Traitors Press). In 2013, he was a finalist for Best Translated Book for his translation of A BREATH OF LIFE by Clarice Lispector (New Directions). His translation of Lispector's THE BESIEGED CITY is forthcoming. The son of Brazilian immigrants to the United States, Lorenz was born in Newark in 1972 and was raised in Miami Beach. He received his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin and is currently an associate professor of English at Montclair State University. In 2003, he was awarded a Fulbright grant to translate the poems of Mario Quintana.
