Nikkia Carter, previously Nikkia McGowan, was born and raised in inner city Baltimore, MD. She and her siblings were brought up by their separated parents and were heavily influenced by their paternal grandmother. Nikkia found a love for science, especially genetics, and computer science at an early age and her love for computer science turned into her career. She has worked as a federal employee, for a few federal contractors, and a enterprise technology consulting firm before starting her own technology consulting firm, Carter-McGowan Services, in 2012. During this time, her admiration for Microsoft technology in particular lead her make her company into Microsoft Partner. She sold her to another Microsoft Partner, C3 Integrated Solutions, in 2018. Nikkia has served retired from one Microsoft Partner board for the Microsoft partner conference, Inspire, and founded a user group on Microsoft cloud technology. She still serves on the Microsoft Voices for Innovation Taskforce, the Microsoft Partner board in DC (IAMCP DC), and leads a SharePoint user group in DC. She speaks at many conferences, has organized events, has written many blogs, and has authored two video courses on Microsoft Office 365. Her passions include technology, science, Microsoft and the Microsoft partner community, serving nonprofits, STEM education, tech policy, retooling veterans and displaced workers, political advocacy, mentoring others, family and friends, and martial arts.
