Hendrika was born in Pretoria (South Africa) and spent her formative years in the North West Province, where she earned her BA (HONS) degree in Social Sciences. She then received several qualifications in Education, TEFOL, and Adult Training and Education. Hendrika and her young family left South Africa in 2006 for the lights of Paris, followed by the lure of England for a few more years. In 2009, the family relocated across the globe and settled in Melbourne, Australia.
As a Master Certified Life Coach, she understands the daily struggles of non-English speakers and the effects of culture shock and migratory grief and loss on individuals and their families. She hopes to use this book as a starting tool to prepare migrants for the emotional rollercoaster of an international move and for them to know that they are not alone. Hendrika lives with her husband, daughter and two very spoilt cats, Max and Lucy.
