Mira Debs is a sociologist and author of Diverse Families, Desirable Schools: Public Montessori in the Era of School Choice. She also directs Yale University's Education Studies program. She has contributed to the New York Times, the Journal of Montessori Research and numerous academic publications. Her public Montessori research has been featured in the Washington Post, the New York Times, the Christian Science Monitor and Education Week. A former high school history teacher, she is a founding board member of Elm City Montessori School, a public Montessori school in New Haven, Connecticut, and she helped to start Montessori for Social Justice, a grassroots organization of Montessori educators. She became passionate about teaching and studying education through moving around a lot as a child, attending eight schools around the US and in India
