Hi there, I'm L. Tamsray! I am a New York State 911 Public Safety Dispatcher and I have a real passion for law enforcement. My love for law enforcement comes from my father, who worked in law enforcement for over forty years When I was a young adult, I learned how to be a dispatcher at the very same place that my father worked. One day I decided to 'make it official' so I elected to take a NY State civil service public safety dispatcher exam and see if I'd be a good fit as a dispatcher for a local police department. I took the civil service exam and got hired by a local police department where I've worked for the past eleven years. Many friends and others asked me about the process of becoming a dispatcher, and so I wrote a how-to guide about how to do just that since I didn't see a lot published on the topic. I noticed something about new hires: they were being instructed how to use all of the computer programs that we as dispatchers use, but there were not a lot of 'behind the scenes' education about officer safety, interrogating callers etc. It was then that I decided to write the first edition of 'In-Depth Police Dispatching,' which I later greatly expanded on to include much more content such as social media, dispatcher safety, radio etiquette, active shooter information and more. Not only is the second edition a fantastic resource for new dispatchers, but it is more than suitable to complement departmental training for new police officers. Thanks for reading my bio, and keep those officers, firefighters, and paramedics safe!
