Paul Linzey

Paul Linzey was a pastor before becoming a military chaplain, and retired from the Army at the rank of colonel. He is now a professor of Spiritual Formation and Practical Ministry at Called College, a subsidiary of North Central University. Areas of expertise include marriage and family, ministry in the military, lay ministry training, and writing contemporary nonfiction. He speaks at conferences, seminars, universities, and churches. Linzey graduated from Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, CA with a BA in Biblical Studies. He completed the Master of Divinity at Fuller Theological Seminary, the Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Skills at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and an MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Tampa. After completing the MFA, Paul was asked to build the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing degree program at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida. He joined several writing groups and began speaking at writing conferences. For several years, he planned and implemented Southeastern University’s annual Expressions Storytelling Institute & Writers Conference, and served as a professor and Doctor of Ministry mentor in the Barnett College of Theology & Ministry. An award-winning author, Paul has written articles for religious and military magazines, and served as an editor and writer for Life Publishers’ the Warriors Bible, published in 2014. His first book, WisdomBuilt Biblical Principles of Marriage, came out in 2019. His second book, Safest Place in Iraq, is about his military ministry in Iraq in 2007. Paul wrote a textbook on military ministry with Dr. Keith Travis of Liberty University in 2022. And in early 2024, published Butterfly Believers, a devotional book using metamorphosis as an analogy for spiritual growth. Paul and his wife have conducted marriage seminars and retreats for many years. They’ve led ministry training seminars focusing on small group development, Christian Education, and lay leadership. Paul enjoys sports, music, and digital photography. He and his wife love movies, books, theater, dogs, and traveling together. They start most days with a game of backgammon and a cup of tea. His theme Scripture is First Thessalonians 2:8, “We loved you so much that we were willing to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us.”
