Kirsty was born in Essex and grew up in Hampshire. She has had a wide variety of jobs including bookselling, railway re-signalling, picking stones off conveyer belts, putting lids on perfume bottles and teaching Pilates.
Kirsty writes children’s books in a range of genres, including science fiction, folk horror, dystopia and fairy tale. She has written standalone novels for older readers and a series about an adventurous princess for younger ones (Princess Minna). Her books have been selected by BookTrust for their Great Books Guides, shortlisted in a number of UK national awards and nominated for the Carnegie Medal. They have been translated into several languages.
She now lives on top of a hill in Winchester, England, close to the butterfly fields that influenced the setting of her first book, The Middler. Alongside writing, she loves reading books and watching all kinds of films and shows – anything with a good story! She is also lucky enough to look after Hearing Dog puppies until they are ready to be trained.
