Nick Newman MS

Nick Newman, M.S. is a national championship-winning track and field coach who was named 2022 National Assistant Coach of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). He has served on NCAA coaching staffs that have placed among the nation's top-25 teams nine times and among the top-5 teams six times. Along with team successes, Newman has earned a host of personal accolades. In 2024, Newman joined UCLA, with its rich track and field history, to coach the jumpers and multi-event athletes. Prior to UCLA, he guided athletes to the second-ever 1-2 finish at the NCAA Championships in the men’s long jump, on the way to helping the University of Tennessee capture a third-place team finish indoors. That same year, at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Newman coached three long jumpers to a podium finish - placing 1st, 4th, and 8th. Newman was a member of the 2021 NCAA National Championship-winning coaching staff while at the University of Southern California. He helped rewrite USC track and field history by leading athletes to 15 all-time top-10 marks and four school records. Newman has dedicated 23 years to the study of sports science and human performance, earning his baccalaureate degree in Exercise Science from Manhattan College. Newman later earned a master’s degree in Human Performance and Sport Psychology from California State University, Fullerton, before beginning his NCAA coaching career in 2016 at the University of California, Berkeley. In addition, Newman holds a range of qualifications in track and field, strength and conditioning, sports performance, and Olympic weightlifting and is widely renowned as one of the most prominent jumps coaches in the world. In 2012, Newman published his debut book, The Horizontal Jumps: Planning for Long Term Development. The book has been an invaluable resource to coaches and athletes of all experience levels.
