Julie received her first cookbook at age 8 (A Year of Cookies!) and has been immersed in the world of food ever since. Julie has been involved with food one way or another nearly her entire life, and after a solo backpacking trip in 2015 yielded a less than enticing meal, Julie started learning how to dehydrate food so that her meals on the trail would match the amazing experiences she had in the backcountry. Some months down the road Julie's son Henry asked her to furnish the meals for a month-long backpacking trip he was planning with a friend. Henry and his friend were taking several pounds of camera gear so lightened their load by leaving home as much equipment as they could- including their stove. This challenged Julie to create meals that would rehydrate quickly with cool water, and the idea of cold-soak salads was born. Henry told his friends about the amazing meals that Julie had created and the demand for her unique take on dehydrated food grew quickly. Julie and Henry now own a business making small-batch dehydrated meals with a focus on the taste and texture of fresh vegetables. When Julie gets a break from the kitchen she heads out to the trail, field testing her meals and dreaming up new ideas for future recipes. Julie, Henry, and their small team of outdoor-minded people make delicious plant-based meals, desserts, and breakfasts. Check them out at www.foodforthesole.co
