The Consent Academy

The Consent Academy is an Educational Collective based out of Seattle, WA. Our goal is to teach consent across a wide range of frameworks and experience. We believe it isn't enough to only talk about consent as is relates to sex and sexual behavior. Consent needs to be talked about across all areas of life and as part of the complicated relationships that exist there. Our writing comes out of the shared experience and knowledge of our staff and volunteers. We pull from Counseling Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, Sociology, Education, Business, Consulting, Coaching, and Sex Ed to collectively build our models and theories around consent. Working together, we put together our work to help spread the underlying concepts and knowledge about consent and the fundamentals it is built on. Oddly enough, we didn't start out to write books. Mostly we teach and consult on consent, but found that we couldn't reach people the way we wanted to. Even after our longer 8 hour classes, people would always ask us for more information or want to go deeper into a given part of the discussion. So it took a while, but eventually it became clear that we needed something people could read and process on their own. And so we wrote a book.
