In 1998 I moved from a highly competitive construction industry market in Southern California to Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo on the Costa Grade of Mexico. In California, with a recession hitting us every 10 years or so, construction in the housing industry was no longer fun. I soon found out what real life was like, without stress or having to sit in traffic half of my working day. And, I loved it. I became a sport fishing captain, fishing with tourists on my boat. Sport fishing is seasonal here, and it did not take me long to understand the different concepts used for home construction in Mexico. Soon, I had sold my boat, became a fly fishing guide using other captain’s boats (leaving the headaches of boat ownership with them), and was building homes on the beach as a consultant for my year-round income. Work was finally fun again, and 21 years later, it still is. I do not regret a minute the amenities I left behind to live in Mexico. Now, I want to share my work and experiences with you. I have been there and done that, with no books or guidelines to help me. When reading one of my books, always filled with photos taken over the years, you are gaining years of experience, long before you may be needing it. Ed Kunze
