‘I really hope you enjoy using this sewing book. I exhibit at many of the big fabric and craft shows in the country. It was at these shows that I would often hear: “These fabrics are just beautiful. What can I make with them?” This is when I decided to write a book showing people the variety of handmade items that can be sewn in these fabrics. Mix and match your favourite Ankara wax prints with plain fabrics from your stash to really express your individual style. Happy sewing!’
Adaku Parker was born in 1979 in London. After more than 15 years as a criminal barrister, she launched her own business selling African wax print fabrics in 2017. She regularly exhibits at many of the big fabric and craft shows around the country. It was at these shows that she met people who were unfamiliar with African wax print fabrics and were unsure what to make with them. It was following these interactions that she decided to write a book about sewing with these fabrics in order to provide much needed inspiration to Ankara lovers everywhere!
She has made regular TV appearances on Channel 4’s Kirsty Allsopp’s Handmade Christmas in December 2019, The Sewing Quarter Shopping Channel (2019) and Hochanda TV (2020/2021).
