Julie Cerny is an educator, gardener, and aspiring homesteader living in New York's Hudson Valley. A longtime lover of food, flowers, trees, and the earth that grows them, she strives to live as an active member of the ecological systems that sustain her.

Passionate about cultivating ecological literacy, living close to the land, and embracing all of the joys and challenges that come along with it, Julie enjoys creating educational experiences in nature that help people feel more connected to themselves, each other, and the natural world that supports them. She has been leading outdoor education programs for over 15 years.

Julie holds a B.S. in Environmental Studies from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, a Certificate in Permaculture Design from Cascadia Permaculture, and has taken land-based experiential education classes in Voluntary Simplicity and Sustainable Living with Audubon Expedition Institute.

She adores fireflies, hakurei turnips, frozen custard, and turning off her phone for days at a time. She currently lives and works at The Farm at the Landing in Stuyvesant, NY. The Little Gardener: Helping Children Connect with the Natural World is her first book.
