Chip Merlin has dedicated his adult life to the representation of insurance policyholders in disputes with their own insurance companies. Chip was noted as the "Babe Ruth of Hurricane lawyers" in the Asbury Park Free Press for his work on behalf of 23 municipalities and hundreds of policyholders following Superstorm Sandy. The Tampa Bay Times dubbed him "the Master of Disaster" for his nationwide catastrophe work and helping policy holders following Hurricane Katrina. His law firm has grown from a one man shop in 1985 to over 13 offices with many of the country’s best insurance coverage attorneys working in the Merlin Law Group.
Chip is a dynamic and sought after speaker regarding anything insurance related. From the very technical, to the very practical, his down to earth explanations about something all of us purchase but rarely understand, is a help to anybody purchasing insurance or involved in a controversy with it. He is on the Board of Directors of United Policyholders, has been a guest commentator on CNN and Fox News and is past Chair of the Insurance Bad Faith Litigation Group of the American Association of Justice. Chip grew up competitively racing one design sailboats and returned to sport in a major way after ocean racing with friends to Cuba. He purchased the iconic west coast ocean racing sled Merlin nearly forty years after vowing he would do so if he ever had the opportunity. He has shared personal experiences and lessons of growing a large law firm and going from coastal to ocean racing in his book, Merlin & Mavericks.
