Hannah McCarthy was born and raised in Braintree, Massachusetts where she grew up with an endless stream of history, theater, botany and carpentry lessons imparted by her parents. She attended high school in Boston, developed a fixation with philosophy, archival research and protracted city walking, and then studied theater and philosophy at Bennington College in Vermont. Following college, Hannah lived on Martha's Vineyard, MA, in Brooklyn, NY, hopped around the country doing odd jobs, and returned to New York to study journalism at NYU's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. She received her masters in 2016, and moved to New Hampshire to join New Hampshire Public Radio as their Couch Fellow. Hannah has worked at NHPR ever since and is currently the co-host of Civics 101, a podcast about the basics of how democracy works.
