
Kim was raised in the farm country of Southeastern Michigan before dragging his family across the world during nine years as a Communications Technician with the Naval Security Group. Upon leaving military service which included flying with VQ1 from Atsugi Japan and sea duty with Guided Missile Destroyer DLG-23, the USS Halsey, Kim went to work with Ross Perot's Electronic Data Systems as a Systems Engineer. Subsequent assignments eventually brought him and family to South Carolina where he continued software work until his retirement. He first learned to fly gliders in high-school and after becoming a CFII began teaching part-time in the early 1990s, at first, in addition to his software development activities. Kim also served as a volunteer Guardian Ad Litem for the county he lived in for sixteen years during this period, suffered the loss of his wife to Cancer in 2013 and went back to college, earning a BA in English and Creative Writing, Summa Cum Laude in 2016 from Southern New Hampshire University. He has been licensed since 1959 as an amateur Radio Operator (K8OSM) is s a life member of American Mensa, and was hopelessly addicted to the writings of Asimov, Clarke, Heinlen, Bradbury and Serling as a teenager.
