Sy Hoekstra

Sy Hoekstra is an editor, writer, and podcaster. His work is mostly about religion, politics, and justice. He was previously a public defender in the child welfare system in New York City. Before that, he was a Staff Attorney at the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Sy graduated cum laude from New York University School of Law in 2014. During law school, he worked in the fields of criminal justice and disability rights. In 2010, he earned his bachelor’s degree in History and German literature from Columbia University. Sy was born in North Dakota, grew up in the Midwest and Northeast, lived for several years as a teenager in Zurich, Switzerland, and now lives in New York City with his wife and daughter.
