At the age of 22, Dezi Shepperd worked as a secretary for the New York City Department of Education District 75/Special Education. While an employee it was suggested she get tested for a learning disability. It was then she learned she had a learning disability called Dyscalculia and ADHD. The diagnosis changed her academic career and gave her the confidence to re-enroll into college and eventually graduate with her BA in Psychology. Her experience having a learning disability inspired her to write Cassidy and the Mixed Up Numbers. She hopes to bring awareness to unseen learning disabilities such as Dyscalculia.
