Andrew J. Theising, Ph.D., is emeritus professor of political science at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He is an urbanist and focuses on the industrial legacy in American cities. He is also active in historic preservation in the greater St. Louis area. His research is grounded in the historical record, with the belief that we cannot understand the problems of today without understanding how those problems evolved over time. He is an authority on the socio-economic institutions of the St. Louis/East St. Louis metropolitan area. His research has been used by media nationwide, including The New York Times, Sports Illustrated, the PBS Newshour, among many others. He also teaches coursework part-time at the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis. He is obsessed with collecting old paper, autographs, and books. Ernest Hemingway is a particular favorite. He lives with his family in the St. Louis suburb of Webster Groves.
