Mallory Knodel is a writer, activist and technologist. She is the Chief Technology Officer for the Center for Democracy and Technology in Washington DC and co-chairs the Human Rights Protocol Considerations research group of the Internet Research Task Force. For many years she has been a technical advisor on cybersecurity policy to the thirty-three governmental members of the Freedom Online Coalition. For most of her career as a public interest technologist, she has lived abroad and worked extensively with civil society organizations around the world, mostly in the Global South. She is a strong advocate for free software. She holds a BS in Physics and Mathematics and an MA in Science Education.
